Daniel Cauia (b. 1993) is a visual artist, living and working in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. He studied painting at Academic Art Lyceum “Igor Vieru”, and graduated from the Department of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts from Chisinau, back in 2021.
Daniel Cauia is a figurative painter who is looking for and developing new methods to communicate his ideas. Being an introvert, his paintings release an abundance of emotions experienced in his cherished moments from his life. Daniel takes inspiration from travelling and exploring new places, from long walks in nature (with his dog), but also from his sense of observation on everything important he encounters on his journey. He paints on themes ranging from social unrest and conflict to landscape painting.
Daniel uses the collage technique in different media such as oil on canvas, mono print or serigraphy. He is an adapt of magical realism and post-impressionism, interested in figurative compositions and themes from the Soviet past of his country. Daniel is inspired by important names in contemporary art such as Peter Doig, Francisc Bacon, Rupercht Kaufmann or Joseph Beuys. Among the Romanian painters, Daniel follows with interest the artistic activity of Mircea Suciu.
